Why the Jaguars will NOT pursue Hines Ward

Today the Pittsburgh Steelers let it be known that they intended to release 14 year veteran Hines Ward. His tenure with the Steelers has been one with 1000 receptions, 12,083 receiving yards, and 85 touchdowns. I call that a great career. His release reminds me of Fred Taylor's time with the Jaguars, it was time. Ward may have 1-2 seasons left in him but it will not be in black and yellow. Who ever signs him will get a great mentor for young receivers. One thing is for certain it won't be the Jaguars.

The Jags have receiver issues and they are looking for a long term/young fix to those issues. Going after Ward does not fit the young movement that GM Gene and Mularkey are going after. I think Ward is a great player and eventually he will sign the ceremonial 1 day contract that will allow him to retire with the Steelers. Until that happens Ward is left with the decision to test the free agent market or retire all together. Either way hats off to a great player who will leave Heinz Field with some memorable moments in black and yellow
