week 3 off the off season (Save Me Baby Jesus)

Well it's week 3 of the off season...Football is gone until early August when preseason starts but that doesn't mean business transactions have stopped. In Jacksonville per Tania Ganguli GM Gene let it be known that FA's like Mathis, Mincey, Lowery and Scobee are a big part of the Jaguar's future. This is great news as the future resigning of these players will continue with what obviously works...That brings the question as to what role will some of these key players play in the new system.  Three of the four players will play a role in the Jags D. One of the big question is how will Mathis factor in. Coming off an ACL injury sustained in the Jags at Colts game back in November you have to wonder will Rasheen return in a starting or back up role. There is speculation that with KC signing Stanford Routt to a multi-year contract (worth roughly 20mil) the releasing of  Brandon Carr could follow. Carr's stats are something that could fit in with what Mel Tucker is looking for the defense. Then again Lowery could get a promotion and raise as he takes over the starter position and Rasheen move to the nickle position. The beauty of this is its all speculation.

Then there is the DE position...other bloggers have their opinion of Jeremy Mincey but in my opinion he proved himself this season as a legit pass rushing threat. If we don't pounce on resigning him then some other team will. Its happened before.  The big question is where does Aaron Kampman stand? Do we cut him for cap room or take the chance of another injury plagued season. His two seasons with the Jags have resulted in 25 tackles, 4 sacks and only 8 games played. I like Kampman. I think he's a natural born leader. However his age and health say otherwise. If the Jags don't part ways with him the contract restructuring is a must. If the world was perfect Cliff Avril would be down here to take his spot. But we don't live in a perfect world and my first posting won't have over 100 hits. What will happen is someone like John Abraham or Mario Williams  or even Dwight Freeney will be considered. Matt Roth is another option as well IF he can stay healthy avoid those concussion type hits.

Finally the elephant in the room, WR. If I had my way Stevie Johnson would be here at 32mil over 5 years with 20 guaranteed plus incentives. Behind him we bring in Pierre Garcon or Brandon Lloyd to compete with M-80 for the 2nd spot or just move Thomas to the 3 spot and finally draft a breakout WR like Blackmon. But once again we don't live in a perfect world and Yellow Moons and Green Clovers are only good in cereal. The WR issues is going to be tough. Many teams are in the middle of negotiations with top tier receivers whom I'm sure GM Gene and The Stach would like to see in Black and Teal (New Uniform Color Plug) Who would you like to see at WR??

March 13th is when "It Gets Real". GM Gene better have more than one phone available at midnight. Lets see what happens.
