MJD to miss start of Voluntary Mini Camp

Tomorrow the Jaguars will hold voluntary mini camp exclusively for veteran players. Jaguars starting running back and 2011 rushing champion Maurice Jones-Drew will not be there as he is still in California. This was tweeted by Tania Ganguli of the Florida Times Union. I'm sure there will be fan speculation that this is the beginning of a holdout as right now MJD is number 8th highest paid running back in the league and his performance last season merits a new contract. In my opinion he does deserve a new contract but lets not jump the gun. Earlier this month Jones-Drew got married and maybe just enjoying some time off with his wife and kids before getting back to work. However with a new coaching staff one wonders if that is the case.

Josh Scobee who has been hit with the franchise tag will also not be at mini camp because a long term deal has not been struck yet. I tweeted Tania Ganguli yesterday and she was kind enough to respond to me saying that both sides as of last week were no where close to a deal yet but that does not mean that one will not be struck. She reminded me that it only takes the right number for a deal to be closed and that could happen any minute.

Other players that won't be particpating in on field activities include (LB) Paul Posluzny, (DE) Aaron Kampman,(CB) Rasheen Mathis, (DT) Tyson Alualu, (DT) Terrance Knighton, (CB) TJ Heath, and (S) Darcel McBath. These players are in the process of recovering from injuries. (OT) Ebon Britton and tight ends Zach Miller and Colin Clorherty will participate in on the field activities but in a limited capcity. This according to John Osher of Jaguars.com.

9 DAYS TILL THE 2012 DRAFT!!!!
