Jaguars release nickleback Drew Coleman

The Jaguars have parted ways with DB Drew Coleman. Coleman was signed last year through free agency and was a vital part of the #6 ranked defense. With the drafting of former Fla State DB Mike Harris who played in nickle and dime situations the release of Coleman is a sign of what GM Gene Smith means when he says "We will build through the draft." The release of Coleman frees up $1.5 million in cap space. Coleman's stats last season included two sacks and two interceptions as well as 32 solo tackles. Personally I think this is a mistake by the Jags as his numbers speak volumes. But with players like Terrance Middleton, Derek Cox and Rashean Mathis returning to the roster after being in injured reserve I can understand the release as the Jaguars have at least 15 defensive backs on the active roster at this time. The Jaguars aquired Coleman in free agency last year. He signed a three year $7.4 million dollar contract with the team. One point about the release on the other side of things was a point made by @TealTalk from Twitter "You knew the truth about Colemen when they kept bringing in more CBs to play outside and never once put him there."
