Rashean Mathis has been cleared for camp

Jaguars CB Rashean Mathis has been cleared to participate in next weeks mini-camp. Mathis was placed on injured reserve this past November after suffering an ACL tear in a game against the Colts. The injury was sustained during a contract season for the veteran and there was some speculation as to if the team would retain him. The Jags wound up resigning Mathis to a one year deal laden with incentives based on play time. Its clear that the team has faith in him as he was an important part of the Jags number six ranked defense. Mathis' presence will be a big part of the defensive leadership on and off the field. He will compete with Aaron Ross for the starter position. Ross was brought in as a free agent this year having played last year with the Giants. If he is starting or not it will be good to see Mathis out there on the field. His recovery time was remarkable as it normally takes anywhere from six to nine months to recover from an ACL injury. Mathis was cleared by one of the best orthopedist, Dr. James Andrews.
